RetroClash at Dante's

Posted by Lyndsay M. Johnson in things to do , reviews , nightlife , event , downtown , clubs

Lyndsay M. Johnson
Most Thursday nights in St. Louis are spent watching "The Office" and eagerly anticipating the weekend nights out on the town, but now we have a new Thursday night ritual to look forward to; Retro Clash at Dantes. Brought to you by Rose Mortem and Ashton Nyte, of Intervention Arts, Retro Clash is a retro club night for those of us who are going to be ill if we have to hear that "Hey Mickey" song ever again. This is not your typical 80s party. Instead, Retro Clash is a dangerous and glittering smash-up of 1970s and 1980s glam, new wave, dark wave, rock and psychedelic melodies, peppered with modern acts inspired by the retro gods.

Halloween at the Bluebird

Posted by Lyndsay M. Johnson in reviews , music , concerts , clubs , bars

Mapquest can never be trusted. After driving past the intersection of Olive and Jefferson in Midtown about, oh, let's say fifty billion times, to be conservative, the cell phone had to be busted out and an aggravated call had to be placed to the friend who was patiently waiting outside the club. As soon as we figured out that the Bluebird is at the corner of Olive and Beaumont (and that it has no visible sign), we parked and entered through a back door. After getting the “in costume” discount cover at the door, we sauntered in to what appeared to be a rather large basement.

Halloween in STL 2008... Whatcha gonna be?

Posted by Dan in nightlife , halloween , event , downtown , costume , clubs , bars

Dan

Well, Halloween falls on a Friday this year, so most of you don't have much of an excuse to NOT get out and about.  But what are ya gonna do?  I haven't found anything comin' up this year that is too terribly creative, but you do have some classic options.  Here are a few ideas - if you know of one that I missed, tell me and I might add it to the list.  These don't all necessarily fall ON halloween night, so be sure to check the links for details.   :)

Two thumbs up on the new hookah lounge on Washington!

Posted by Krissy in washington ave , reviews , nightlife , food , clubs , bars

Krissy
My family and friends and I were walking home from the taste last Saturday when we came upon the new hookah lounge, Nara.  It's located at the corner of Washington and 14th in a perfect location.  We had an odd age range, from 23 to 55, so it was like, where do we go where we can all be happy?  Surprisingly enough though, everyone had a great time and the prices we pretty reasonable.  $10 for a hookah!  They also had a pretty decent looking Greek menu with gyros and such.  If anyone goes, let me know what you think!

AM Lounge gives high-class service with down-to Earth attitude

Posted by Lyndsay M. Johnson in reviews , nightlife , clubs , bars

Lyndsay M. Johnson

Like a cocktail swilling butterfly emerging from a beer battered cocoon, AM Lounge has been reborn from rBar. The transformation took place late this summer, when the cool Grove neighborhood bar and grill rBar was closed down and remodeled by a few of the owners. We made the trek down to the corner of Chouteau and Sarah, (and drove around looking for a parking spot for a half an hour before deciding to entrust our baby to the seedy guy in the pay lot) to see what possible improvements could have been made to a bar that was already so awesome.
