Schlafly Bottleworks current event highlightsPosted by: Crissa on Apr 20, 2009 |

Schlafly is known for its great beer and for its two hotspots here in St. Louis: The Tap Room (down town) and The Bottleworks (Maplewood). Each brewpub serves great food, excellent in quality, taste and price, and each brewpub offers private parties and events. This spring and summer, head to the Schlafly Bottleworks for some fun events and some tasty beer.
This month, the Bottleworks hosted a Gardening Demonstration, directed and led by Schlafly's Gardener, Jack Petrovic. With many years of experience under his belt both in Schlafly's garden and on his own, Petrovic brought a wonderful new light to gardening to all those who attended on Saturday, April 4 at 10am. First he led the group into a deep discussion varying from best soil conditions and components to his personal trial and errors. The later part of the seminar took the group outside for some up close looks at the garden and some demonstrations on gardening techniques. Discussions included when to plant tomatoes, easiest kinds of lettuce to grow, the benefits of growing garlic, and reasons to have your own compost bin. Petrovic may have another seminar in August and for those of you who do garden, Petrovic is considering starting a Gardener's Club. Grab some beer and gardening gloves and head on over to the Schlafly Bottleworks to show off your green thumb!
Also this month, Petrovic established the start of the monthly event, Metaphysical Mondays. This is a small gathering, around 30-50 individuals (but can allow up to 100), who meet the first Monday of every month for fellowship and in-depth discussions on metaphysics. Metaphysical Mondays is lead by Samuel House, who will build on previous concepts more each week. The group will be covering ideas such as consciousness, reality, and spirituality as a whole. His sessions are being recorded and will be available on the Schlafly website if you are interested on what is being discussed. This is for anyone interested in exploring further into the spiritual realm or even those just curious. House is very experienced and brings answers to many questions along with him. This is not a group where you will be judged, so if you are curious be there at 7am for the next meeting: May 4!
Starting in April, Schlafly Bottleworks is now holding a weekly Farmer's Market in their parking lot. This is every Wednesday from 4-7pm. Unlike the Soulard Farmer's Market, the majority of vendors found here actually grow their produce and can give you tips, insights, and best of all - great quality food! In May, they will begin having live music play during the Farmer's Market for some great music, beer, and produce shopping!
As if it didn't get any better, The Schlafly Bottleworks had a Repeal Party on April 18. Tickets were $25 per person in advance. There was live music and all you could drink beer. There will be numerous other events at The Bottleworks this spring and summer, so bring extra cash for some good grub. I suggest either the Bison Burger with some mashed potatoes or if you are feeling healthier, go for the Turkey Sandwich with a side of asparagus - goes great with their new beers for spring: the Raspberry Hefeweizen and Summer Lager (yes, I got to try both before the estimated release date!).
